Muffling Industrial Fan Noise
Local residents complained about the noise as soon as a company started operating an industrial scrubber exhaust fan. The supplier was asked to help and they fitted sound deadening / muffling material around the fan casing. Residents continued to complain, so the company installed a high wooden fence around the fan. This had no effect on complaints, so it appears that the muffling and fence had no significant effect on the level of sound at the houses.
The company then asked us to help with muffling the fan noise. We carried out a survey to assess the amount of noise reduction needed. Based on this, we recommended installation of a silencer into the ductwork for muffling the broadband fan sound. We also designed specialist muffling to suppress the loud hum sound that was clearly audible at the houses.
The muffling was highly successful, reducing the fan noise such that it was completely inaudible at the houses – including the hum sound. Complaints immediately ceased and the company was able to operate the scrubber and exhaust fan without upsetting the neighbours. The noise muffling was designed / selected to have no adverse effect on the fan airflow rate or scrubber performance.
