Noise suppression for an industrial food manufacturing
factory
Following noise nuisance complaints from residents opposite the
factory, an industrial food manufacturer asked Advanced Noise Solutions
Ltd for help with noise suppression from some roof extract fans.
We carried out various noise tests and gave the company four noise
suppression options from which to select in order to reduce the
noise from the fans. However, we also pointed out that solely treating
the fans would not be sufficient because there were also high levels
of noise transmission from various types of industrial production
machine inside the factory. Noise levels were between 90 dBA and
97 dBA in many production areas inside the factory.
We recommended that a new industrial steel door be fitted to the
outside wall of the factory to provide noise suppression for the
industrial production machines. We also recommended that various
types of industrial production machine be treated at source if a
further noise reduction was needed afterwards. This would have the
major benefit that it would provide suppression of worker noise
exposures as well as noise nuisance.
Following noise suppression of the fans and installation of the
new factory door, complaints ceased. However, the company plans
to carry out further noise suppression work in future by treating
various types of industrial production machine in the factory at
source, as we recommended.
